Saturday October 15- Heiskell Library’s Accessible Community, Culture, and Technology Fair

***We need a few more ambassadors.***

The Heiskell Library has again invited us to table at their annual accessible Community, Culture, and Technology fair. The past two fairs have brought in over 200 attendees each year to learn about the city’s accessible offerings for community members who are blind, visually impaired, or physically disabled. We are in need of a few ambassadors to represent InTandem at this event. Please e-mail us at info@intandembike.org if you are available. We also encourage everyone to drop by and participate in the Hands-On: Exploration and Creation themed activities.

Saturday October 22- Daffodil Ride

Our first gardening ride.  This ride is being managed by InTandem stokers Jay Kronfeld and Shelley Wine.  We will leave from Central Park and ride down to Corlears Hook Park in the Lower East Side where the Friends of Corlears Hook Park have given us three areas within the park to plant dafodils.  A few hours of gardening work will prepare the appetite for a lunch with new Friends and fuel our return ride to Central Park.

RSVP from the calendar below.

Sunday October 23- Tour de Bronx

It’s back! The Tour de Bronx is on Sunday October 23rd. Choose one of two rides. The 25-mile route takes riders through the south, east and mid portion of the borough including the Mott Haven district, Clason Point along the East River, and the largest park in New York City: Pelham Bay Park boasting nearly 3,000 acres of natural forest, OR The 40-mile route, which includes a visit to the historic Fort Schuyler on the Throgs Neck peninsula, the nautical community of City Island and the northern portions of the borough like Woodlawn and Riverdale. Both rides conclude at the iconic New York Botanical Garden where riders receive a complimentary souvenir T-shirt and enjoy a live musical performance as they relax from the day’s festivities.

RSVP from the calendar below.

Riding with the captains of Blackrock

This past Friday was a lovely day in Central Park – perfect for some tandem riding and a picnic lunch with new friends from BlackRock.  Ten new captains received their captain training from Matt Malina, then met our stokers and set off to tour the Park for a few hours.

A picnic lunch under the magnificent elm trees in the East Meadow followed.

Thanks to InTandem stoker Jasmin Sethi for arranging the day and to Manny Frontini from BlackRock for managing their team.  As usual,  InTandem den mother Susan Elefant made sure everything else went smoothly, which it did.

Gran Fondo NJ – September 11, 2016

This past Sunday, Team InTandem participated in our third Gran Fondo NJ.  Sixteen tandem teams and three solo escort / standby captains.

Stokers Lynnette Tattum and Maria Rios began the festivities for the 2700 riders and local dignitaries with an extremely soulful and emotional rendition of the national anthem in special commemoration of the solemnity of the date.

It was a lovely day.  All large events  have their special features and challenges. The best ones have a certain feel to the overall day – a mix of setting, program, and mostly, people, that just feels good and right. This event has that. That’s the best.

Our team rode in four of the five courses and all but one team completed their rides.  Apologies to Dorcas and Laurel, whose tandem bike let them down this day. They completed all but eight of their 42 mile course.

Special thanks to Chris and Denise Patoir for transporting the bikes to Morristown and then back to our trailer in Central Park. And to Jonathon, Denise, and Susan and Debbie Elefant for making sure our team was ready to go for the start of the ride – which they were.

The ride may be complete but the fundraising campaign will continue for a few weeks still.  It is not too late to join Team InTandem. Please consider a donation at this time to help
us continue to provide our programs to our members.
