The second annual InTandem All-Night Donut Ride was a sweet and savory success! We are very grateful for everyone who registered to ride with us!

At midnight, 12 InTandem teams and some 75 other riders set out from Central Park ready to conquer the night ahead, and with donuts on the brain the teams crossed the Macombs Dam bridge into the Bronx with Yankee stadium highlighting the way. Our first stop was Crown Diner. It was a mellow atmosphere in an old school diner on 161st st.

After stuffing our faces in round one, we made our way back to Manhattan and traveled down the west side on the Hudson River Greenway bike path. It was a beautifully brisk evening with a welcoming quiet often not experienced in the big city.  We stopped at Chelsea Piers where we were treated to another round of treats brought in from The Donut Pub on 14th St. We all knew there was no sleep til’ Brooklyn so we followed the Hudson River Greenway past the World Trade Center and down around Battery Park to the Brooklyn Bridge.

If you’ve ever ridden the very chaotic Brooklyn Bridge in the daytime, you’ll understand the joy of relaxing as your tires rumble over the wooden slats. Some of us were feeling the effects of avoiding the usual nighttime slumber so we added an impromptu coffee stop in Fort Greene.

Williamsburg treated us kindly as we passed through. We took a sigh of relief as we were welcomed into Peter Pan Donuts in Greenpoint with heat and trays and trays of fresh donuts emerging from the kitchen, seemingly just for our riders, which they were.

After a nice break to catch up with friends from our other group, we all set off for Queens. The longer route coasted along the shore past Astoria Park before reaching our final destination at The Doughnut Plant in Long Island City.

A leisurely (and mostly vehicularly empty) early morning pedal back over the Ed Koch Bridge heralded another beautiful morning sunrise in New York City.

All told – about 3000 miles ridden, 500 donuts consumed – don’t want to think about how many calories.

We hope you enjoyed your evening, and will volunteer with us in the near future.

Much thanks to everyone who made this ride a great success.
