Have questions? Read below for Frequently Asked Questions regarding InTandem’s program and events. If you have remaining questions about our program, you can contact us at info@intandembike.org.
I’m a very experienced tandem rider. Do I still need to attend InTandem’s training?
It’s fantastic that you have experience tandem riding already! You will still need to attend InTandem’s Virtual Onboarding and In-Person Training, per our safety and liability policies. It’ll likely be a breeze for you, but nevertheless important that we ensure all our riders feel confident and safe on their bikes together.
I’ve never ridden a tandem bike before. Am I still able to ride?
Yes! We welcome people of all experience levels, which is why we require a thorough Virtual and In-Person Training for all Captains and Stokers. Our Captain and Stoker Trainers will ensure you feel comfortable riding with us before your first post-Training ride. If you feel very uncomfortable cycling, you can also participate with InTandem in other ways, not on a bike! Visit our Volunteer page to learn more.
What are the safety policies and procedures in place?
InTandem has safety and liability insurance for all individuals who participate in our cycling program. We require all cyclists to fill out a safety waiver, attend a Virtual Onboarding, and get trained in-person by an experienced Captain or Stoker Trainer. These safety measures are all in place to ensure our cyclists have a safe, empowering experience. We also require all cyclists to wear a helmet on rides and practice safety checks before getting on their tandem.
When and Where Do You Ride?
InTandem offers rides in Central Park on Saturday and Sunday mornings throughout most of the year – weather permitting – and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from May to September. The exact details on location and timing will be shared with you at our online orientation training
Do you all offer rides in NYC outside of Central Park?
We do! If you’re a fully trained Captain or Stoker, you are also eligible to request an “Out of the Park” training, where we will occasionally plan routes throughout New York City. Only those who have completed Out of the Park Training will be eligible to register for these rides.
I don’t live in New York City. Can I still get involved?
While our Rides and Trainings all take place in person at Central Park, we still welcome you to attend our Virtual Onboarding if you are interested in our program. Then, if you’re ever in NYC, you can reach out to us about scheduling an in-person Training, and once the training is complete, you can sign-up for rides whenever you’re in town! While we don’t offer programs outside of NYC, we hope to expand our program offerings in the future so please follow us on social media and subscribe to our newsletter!
Are there age requirements to ride?
Our Trainings and Weekly Rides are for individuals who are 18 and older, but we also provide a Youth Program in the spring/summer! For more info, visit our InTandem Youth Program Page.
This all sounds great! How do I get signed up for a ride?
Start by filling out our Intake Form! An InTandem Staff member will be in touch shortly after you’ve submitted the form to schedule your Virtual Onboarding.
